2025 Open Memorial Event Spanning Day and Night

The State of Baden-Württemberg has introduced a new digital Monument Map, providing a novel and up-to-date resource on cultural monuments previously unavailable. This exciting development was announced by Minister Nicole Razavi during the launch of the program for the Day of Open Heritage and Night of Open Heritage, scheduled for September 13 and 14, 2025.

The Monument Map can be easily accessed on PCs, tablets, and smartphones, and can be localized and retrieved via the interactive map surfaces of the Geoportal Baden-Württemberg. This means that citizens and visitors alike can explore the cultural heritage of the region at any time, whether they are strolling through the city or the countryside.

The Monument Map offers a wealth of information about Baden-Württemberg's cultural heritage, including key landmarks such as Mannheim's water tower, the Multihalle, museum ship, and old town hall. Lesser-known heritage sites like the Boersensaal in the music school, Herschelbad, Stadthaus N1 with the central library, and bunker K5 will also be open for exploration.

The Mannheim Observatory will also be open during the Night of Open Monuments, providing a unique opportunity to learn more about the region's history and heritage. Some actions during the Night of Open Heritage have a limited number of participants, so registration is required to secure a spot.

The program for the Day of Open Heritage and Night of Open Heritage includes various activities such as guided tours, city tours, concerts, performances, walks, film screenings, and other visitor offers. The theme for the events is "Worthwhile: priceless or irreplaceable?".

The opening ceremony will take place at the Stadthaus N1 in Mannheim on September 13, 2025, at 5 pm. Speeches will be given by Minister Nicole Razavi, Mayor Christian Specht, and Prof. Dr. Claus Wolf, accompanied by a framework program. Prior registration for the opening ceremony is recommended.

Mayor Christian Specht, who will officially open the "Tag des Offenen Erbes" and the subsequent "Nacht des Offenen Erbes" on September 13 and 14, 2025, has been the Lord Mayor of Mannheim since August 4, 2023. The Geoportal Baden-Württemberg, which provides the Monument Map, is offered free of charge by the State Office for Geoinformation and Land Development (LGL).

The Monument Map can be tested live during the Night or Day of Open Monuments in Mannheim. Visitors can explore around 50 free activities around the heritage sites and historic locations of the baroque planned city from 6 pm to midnight. With the new Monument Map, Baden-Württemberg's cultural heritage is now more accessible than ever before, making it easier for all citizens to learn about and appreciate the region's rich history.
