Accommodation: Hotel Milla Montis, Italy
In the heart of Maranza, a small Alpine village nestled above Puster Valley, lies the newly inaugurated hotel. This stunning hotel, located at Huberstraße 25, 39037 Mühlbach (Meransen), was designed by Peter Pichler Architecture, who won an invited competition in 2019 to bring this project to life.
The hotel's location offers a unique scenery, boasting impressive panoramic views of the Dolomites Mountains. The design of hotel Milla Montis is a contemporary reinterpretation of the regional vernacular architecture, inspired by the classic wooden barn. The structure is fragmented into four shifted volumes, breaking down the scale of the entire structure.
The main material used in the project, both inside and outside hotel Milla Montis, is wood. The exterior features blackened wood, while the interior showcases lightwood. The interiors exude a simple, functional timeless Alpine style, with ash wood and typical green Loden textiles combining to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Shared facilities include a bar and restaurant located on the last floor overlooking the Dolomites, an outdoor Spa, an infinity pool, a finish sauna, and a hay room. The hotel contains thirty rooms that range from doubles to large suites with private saunas.

The site of the new hotel Milla Montis was previously home to the old mill from Maranza, which was transformed into the Pension Untermüllerhof. The curved shape of the exoskeleton facade is inspired by a local farmer's pitchfork, adding a touch of local charm to the modern design.
Maranza, located in the Italian region of South Tyrol, has a significant agricultural background. Meadows and fields surround the well-shaped mountain of this small Alpine village, contributing to the picturesque beauty of the area.
