Archmongers Transforms London Homes into Modern, Energy-Efficient Sanctuaries

Archmongers, a London-based residential retrofit specialist, has completed two significant renovations this year. The first was the Elemental House in Hackney, followed by the Ray House in Dalston. Both projects transformed outdated buildings into contemporary, energy-efficient homes.

At Ray House, the kitchen was relocated to the upper ground floor, now bathed in natural light and overlooking the front garden. The new rear façade sports a sunny yellow frieze, designed by the house owner Leona Clark, adding a pop of colour to the exterior.

A striking new stairwell, featuring black rubber treads and crafted from Douglas fir and ply, was installed. The interiors showcase the clients' collection of classic designs, including Ettore Sottsass' 'Tahiti' and 'Callimaco' lighting. The rear extension increased the house's size by 17 sq m, creating unique spaces adjacent to the staircase. The renovation also saw the house transformed from poorly insulated with single-glazed windows to a hi-tech, all-electric home powered by a heat pump.

Archmongers' renovations of Ray House and Elemental House demonstrate their expertise in transforming outdated buildings into contemporary, energy-efficient homes. The Ray House renovation, in particular, has resulted in a bright, airy home with unique spaces and an eye-catching exterior.
