On September 12, 2025, County Councilor Tanja Schweiger organised an enriching excursion for senior and disability commissioners in the Regensburg district. Around 30 commissioners, dedicated to advocating for the needs and rights of older and disabled persons in their communities, attended the event.

The day began at the County Council office in Regensburg, where Councilor Schweiger warmly welcomed the guests and expressed her gratitude for their volunteering commitment. The head of the department that organised the excursion, Sabine Stern, then led the group on a journey to Weiden.

The primary goal of the excursion was to foster cooperation and understanding between the County Council and the local senior commissioners. It also served as a platform for the commissioners to share their insights and experiences with the County Council. The cooperation between the County Council and the senior commissioners aims to learn about the needs on site and to bring the County Council's offer to the region.

Upon arrival in Weiden, the group received a historical city tour, providing a fascinating insight into the city's rich history. The Ratskeller Weiden restaurant catered for the group, offering a delightful lunch before the afternoon activities.

After lunch, participants had free time to visit Seltmann Porzellan or Witt Weiden factory outlets or stroll through the old town. This leisurely part of the day allowed the commissioners to experience firsthand the County Council's offerings and services.

The excursion concluded at around 6 pm, with the group returning safely to the County Council office in Regensburg. Before departing, the commissioners received a small gift from employees of the department as a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

The excursion, organised by the Department of Support in Difficult Life Situations - Care Support Point Plus, was a testament to the County Council's commitment to enabling and expanding the participation opportunities of older and disabled persons in society. The senior and disability commissioners are vital contact persons for the concerns and wishes of the county citizens, and their active involvement in advocacy is invaluable.
