Expansion of Watercraft Wheels on Lake Tourism Spots: New Development Ahead
Rolling Through Scenery: Mecklenburg Lake District's Strategic Play to Pedal Up Tourism
The picturesque landscapes of the Mecklenburg Lake District aren't enough to seal the deal. To lure cyclists from every corner, this mesmerizing region raises its game in a whole new way. "Every tourism region would draw attention the same way," points out the insightful Steffen Rißmann of Wesenberg, echoed at the "Cycling Tourism Lake District 2034" workshop, held at the Haus des Gastes in Waren.
Tailored Tourism Marketing Gets a Gear up
The discourse honed in on incorporating the crucial cycling niche within the overall tourism palette, aiming for greater visibility on existing digital channels.
"E-bikers, road cyclists, gravel cyclists, and families each have distinct needs and expectations for cycling routes," sheds light Christin Drühl from the Mecklenburg Lake District Tourism Association. The requirement for personalized marketing is clear, she adds. "Assessing cafés, exhibitions, and other attractions along the routes ensures regional tourism providers yield tangible benefits, so that businesses like cafés and exhibitions enjoy the increased footfall as well."
In a bid to consolidate social media efforts, initiatives are being unfurled for joint organization of events. Detlef Koepke mooted the concept of a night ride, for instance, from Berlin to Wesenberg. Inspired by his success with the Mecklenburg Lake Round, partially undertaken at night, the objective is to draw night ride fanatics while sparking interest in regional offers.
The Pursuit of Perseverance
The mundane era of cycling for cycling's sake is a thing of the past, asserts Steffen Rißmann. "Endless media influences call for small bike-sized impulses. Cycling no longer exists in isolation." The Mecklenburg Lake Round, a challenging cycling route of 300 kilometers, compels cyclists to persevere, the driving force that sustains their resolve, he says.
However, even the night ride from Berlin to Wesenberg can be attempted during daylight hours, Rißmann concludes pragmatically. As a local politician, his interest lies in leveraging cycling to bridge connections essential for tourist development, the accompanying infrastructure, and thus the economy.
The roster of attendees shared this vision, encompassing employees of the lake district's tourism information offices, Thomas Fitzke as an expert in cycling and cycling paths of Economic Development Corporation Mecklenburg Lake District, and mayors from the region.
