Venice Extends Access: 60-Day Expansion of Admission - Extension of Entry granted in Venice for 60 days

Venice, Italy, is set to implement an entry fee for day visitors on 60 days between early April and late July next year. This marks the third season that the city will introduce this controversial measure, which was first implemented this year with costs ranging from five to ten euros.

The city administration announced that the fee applies to those wanting to spend a few hours in the streets around St. Mark's Square and Rialto Bridge during the day. The fee is focused on specific tourist areas within Venice, as opposed to residents or long-term visitors.

The exact number of days the fee will be charged on has been specified as 60 days. However, the future cost of entry is still undetermined, with suspicions that it may increase.

The implementation of this fee has received criticism, with some expressing concerns about its impact on tourism and accessibility. Nevertheless, the city administration believes that the revenue generated from the city access fee system will increase significantly.

In 2024, 54 fee days brought in about 5.4 million euros. With the increase to 60 days and a likely higher fee, revenues are expected to exceed this amount. Although the exact future fee per day has not yet been announced, the annual revenue from the system is anticipated to rise.

This news follows Venice's ongoing efforts to manage tourism and preserve its historical sites. The city has faced challenges in recent years due to overcrowding and the strain on its infrastructure. The entry fee is one of several measures aimed at controlling the number of visitors and ensuring a sustainable tourism model.
