At the recently concluded 44th Rheingau Wine Week in Wiesbaden, Germany, a new level of safety and security was achieved through the implementation of a innovative security concept. This concept, focused on access protection measures, was introduced due to a political decision that allowed the procurement of the latest certified mobile barriers designed specifically for the event [1].

These mobile barriers, which made their debut anywhere in Germany at the Rheingau Wine Week in 2025, proved to be a significant asset. They impressed emergency services, traders, market participants, and residents alike with their effective daily use. The city of Wiesbaden invested approximately 2.8 million euros in the planning, procurement, and interim rental of these barriers, serving as a flexible interim solution until the permanent systems are installed [1].

The newly acquired mobile barriers were not intended to replace the retractable bollards planned for central points, but rather to provide a flexible solution in the meantime. The permanent systems, which will be implemented at the planned locations at a cost of 25 to 30 million euros in a long-term project, will be a permanent addition to the event's security measures [1].

In addition to the mobile barriers, the city police played a crucial role in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere and ensuring guest safety. Uniformed employees of the city police were regularly on patrol at large events, providing a visible presence that most visitors found reassuring. The balance of the city police during the last Rheingau Wine Week showed two and a half brawls, which is considered an excellent rate given the tens of thousands of visitors [1].

The 43rd Rheingau Wine Week took place from August 10th for ten days in 2020, featuring around 1000 wines and sparkling wines from regional winemakers and Wiesbaden's partner cities. The event also had an awareness team operating evenings to provide information and support for safe nightlife, further reinforcing the event's comprehensive safety efforts [1].

For the 45th Rheingau Wine Week in 2022, an event ticket allows parking on Schlossplatz. The Public Order Office is responsible for the Rheingau Wine Week events, ensuring that the high level of safety and security is maintained in the future [1].
