Hannover-Boss Airport Discusses Establishment of New Flight Route, A Noticeable Departure from Previous Service Provision

Hannover Airport (HAJ) currently has no plans to establish direct flights to North America using the Airbus A321 XLR, according to available industry sources. As of July 2025, there are no direct services from Hannover to the United States, Canada, or any destinations in the Americas. The only intercontinental flights available from HAJ are to Africa and the Middle East.

The airport's route map and airline listings do not show upcoming North American routes or announcements regarding the A321 XLR’s introduction for this purpose. Airlines are increasingly adopting the Airbus A321 XLR for long-haul, thin routes, a profile that could suit potential future Hannover–North America flights. However, no announcements or schedules confirming such operations from HAJ have been reported.

Martin Roll, the CEO of Hannover Airport, is keeping a close eye on the Canadian market, considering it a potential new market for long-haul flights. He has expressed interest in the Airbus A321 XLR, the aircraft that could make long-haul flights possible for Hannover Airport. Talks with relevant airlines regarding potential flights to Canada are already underway.

While there are no direct flights from Hannover to North America as of now, connectivity typically requires a transfer at a major European hub such as Frankfurt or Amsterdam for North American destinations. Martin Roll believes that there are opportunities for other destinations, including Canada, as there is a trend away from the US as a travel destination.

Hannover Airport's central location is seen as a significant advantage for potential flights to Canada. The CEO is confident that people would be willing to travel a bit further to reach their destination via Hannover Airport. It's worth noting that there is currently no direct connection from Northern Germany to Canada.

In an interview with "Aerotelegraph", Martin Roll stated that if the right number of Airbus A321 XLR aircraft is available, it could be interesting for Hannover Airport for routes to North America. He also mentioned that he is considering the airport as a potential gateway to North America.

However, it's important to note that while Martin Roll is optimistic about the potential for North American flights, there is still no public indication that the Airbus A321 XLR will be utilized for this route in the near future. Hannover Airport will start direct flights from Hannover to Dubai with Eurowings in the winter flight schedule, but no direct flights to North America are planned as of now.

In other news, Martin Roll expressed concern over the increasing number of water accidents in Lower Saxony, stating, "Those things are a plague!" This fact is not directly related to the airport but was mentioned in the same article.
