Germany's tourism sector experienced a notable upsurge in April, all thanks to the delayed Easter. According to the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden, hotels and accommodations favoring ten or more guests logged a whopping 41 million overnight stays during that period. That's a 11% hike compared to the same month last year. You guessed it, a large chunk of Easter celebrations last year fell in March, which left April poorly populated this year.
Domestic travelers planned a lot more sleeps over
In April, we saw a significant surge in overnights booked by domestic tourists, amounting to 34.4 million - a 12.4% jump from the previous year. Foreign tourists weren't far behind, but their increase was somewhat modest compared to their domestic counterparts, booking 6.6 million overnights - a 4.1% increase.
The first four months of this year have basically mirrored the same period last year in terms of bookings, as stated by the statisticians. Domestic tourists keep proving their loyal selves, their overnights rising by a tad more than 0.1% to 104.4 million. Conversely, foreign tourists seem to be taking a breather, their overnights dipping by 0.7% to 21.2 million.
