Ireland Welcomes First Monastery in 500 Years: Silverstream Priory

Ireland's County Meath welcomes its first monastery in over five centuries. Silverstream Priory, established in 2017, is home to Benedictine monks dedicated to prayer, reparation, and scriptural study.

Led by Dom Mark Daniel Kirby, who arrived in Ireland in 2012, the monks focus on reparation for the sins of priests. Their approach is rooted in the teachings of the Church Fathers and the Scriptures. The community, recognized by Bishop Michael Smith of Meath, includes members from various backgrounds. Americans make up a significant portion, with the prior hailing from Connecticut and another monk from Colorado. The priory also houses a postulant from Toledo, Ohio and a priest from the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Despite its international composition, one member is a local from County Meath, while others come from as far as Australia and Denmark. The monastery, dedicated to the Perpetual Adoration of the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar, stands as a quiet witness to the Lord in the heart of Meath.

Silverstream Priory, Ireland's newest Benedictine monastery, brings a unique spiritual presence to County Meath. With its focus on prayer, reparation, and scriptural study, it offers a quiet, contemplative space for both its monks and the wider community.
