KEW 2025: Kazakhstan Showcases Energy Ambitions, Signs Power Deal With Tajikistan
Astana recently hosted Kazakhstan Energy Week (KEW 2025) and the 16th Eurasian Forum KAZENERGY, attracting over 2,500 delegates from 300 companies and 50 countries. The event marked the 20th anniversary of the KAZENERGY Association and served as an international dialogue platform for Central Asia and the Caspian region.
KEW 2025 reaffirmed Kazakhstan's role as a hub for dialogue between government, business, and international organizations. It focused on investment reforms and regional energy cooperation. The forum positioned Kazakhstan as a leading regional player and an attractive destination for long-term investment.
International companies like Eni SpA participated, discussing collaborative projects to enhance natural gas and oil field operations. These projects included technology sharing, joint exploration, and development initiatives. Kazakhstan aims to shift from raw material dependence to value-added industries, with deep processing in oil and gas expected to increase revenues significantly.
A significant development was the signing of an intergovernmental agreement between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan on power supplies from the Rogun hydropower plant. Plans are underway to synchronize power grids among three countries. Additionally, KazMunayGas and Eni SpA discussed the development of the Karachaganak field and the launch of a 50 MW solar power plant in Zhanaozen.
The 247 MW hybrid power complex in Zhanaozen, including a solar, wind, and gas plant, is scheduled for completion in 2026. The National Digital Investment Platform, with over 1,000 projects, aims to boost refined products' value and diversity. KEW 2025 successfully fostered international cooperation and investment, with a central session focusing on business and state collaboration.
