Stepping Down: Mainau Island's Flower Princess Passes the Baton
Island Leader Steps Down from His Position on Mainau Island - Leader of Island Relinquishes Administrative Roles on Mainau Island
After a decade at the helm, Countess Bettina Bernadotte is bidding adieu to her role as co-CEO of the enchanting Mainau Island on Lake Constance. In a twist of familial prowess, her son, Count Björn Bernadotte (yes, you read that right), is stepping in to share the responsibilities with his mother.
The Bernadottes, descendants of the Swedish royal house, have meticulously sculpted Mainau Island for five generations. And this legacy is set to continue with the infusion of family-based expertise alongside external management know-how.
"I'll keep Mainau close to my heart through my work on the foundation board," shared the vivacious 50-year-old, who's led the company since 2007. This tourist hotspot near Konstanz attracts over a million visitors annually, earning its moniker, the "Flower Island."
Step into this dreamland, and you'll be greeted by awe-inspiring park and garden landscapes, a Baroque castle, a palm house, and a kaleidoscope of colors at the butterfly house, all encompassing the 45 hectares of paradise.
The Mainau GmbH, the company managing the island, maintains a multidimensional workforce. Around 150 full-time staff and 30 apprentices keep the hills alive with the sound of music (ok, maybe not that excessive) throughout the year. During peak seasons, an additional 200 seasonal workers join the crew. The sole shareholder is the non-profit Lennart-Bernadotte-Stiftung.
The search for the new external leader is already underway, with our sources confirming that Count Björn Bernadotte is ready to don the crown of responsibility alongside his mother. No pressure, kid!
- As Mainau Island embarks on a new chapter with Count Björn Bernadotte stepping in, the community and employment policies will continue to prioritize a lifestyle that nurtures the garden, travel experiences, and the sustainable living ethos that the island is known for.
- Meanwhile, home-and-garden enthusiasts can anticipate the infusion of fresh ideas and perspectives in Mainau GmbH's employment policy, maintaining the high standard of service and attraction that draws over a million visitors to the Flower Island each year.
