Med Showcases Conservation Work at World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi
The World Conservation Congress 2025 is set to take place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from 9 to 15 October. The event, organised by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), will see the Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation (Med) showcasing its work and initiatives. Virtual participation is available via the official Congress website.
Med will present its work under key themes such as 'Scaling Up Resilient Conservation Action' and 'Reducing Climate Overshoot Risks'. A highlight will be the Mediterranean Blue Natural Capital Facility, a regional mechanism to mobilise finance for marine and coastal restoration through Nature-based Solutions.
The Congress will also witness the launch of the European Subregional Technical and Scientific Cooperation Support Centre in Brussels. This centre aims to assist 44 countries in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Med is committed to strengthening partnerships and collaboration with its Members and Commissions to implement its Programme 2026-2029 in the Mediterranean region.
Mediterranean events at the Congress can be followed online using the hashtags #ourwebsiteCongress and #MedAtCongress2025. The region is demonstrating practical conservation outcomes through the combination of science, policy, and community action. Initiatives to be highlighted include freshwater and drought resilience projects, ecosystem restoration, regenerative blue economy, support for civil society, agricultural transition, and innovation and digital tools.
The World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi promises to be a significant event for the Mediterranean region. Med's participation will showcase its commitment to conservation, resilience, and sustainable development. The launch of the European Subregional Centre further underscores the region's dedication to implementing global biodiversity frameworks.
