In a recent report, Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection Insurance Company has named Iceland as the safest country for tourists to visit. Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland, was also identified as the safest city for travelers. Copenhagen, Denmark and Montreal, Canada also made it to the list of the next safest cities for tourists.

The insurance company based its list on various factors including low crime rates, societal stability, minimal conflict, low levels of militarization, and efficient infrastructure that reduces risks associated with transport and natural hazards. They also took into account traveler surveys and international security data to support their rankings.

Iceland was named the safest country for travelers due to its almost nonexistent violent crime, friendly locals, social stability, and robust infrastructure with effective natural risk management protocols despite volcanic activity. Canada, Denmark, and the United Kingdom were also noted for their low crime rates, societal stability, and quality infrastructure, earning them a place among the top 15 safest countries.

Reykjavik, as Iceland’s capital, benefits from the country’s overall safety credentials and offers a vibrant cultural scene along with ease of mobility. Copenhagen ranks highly given Denmark's placement among the top 15 safest countries. Montreal, within Canada—which is ranked among the top safest countries—is also implied to be safer given Canada's overall ranking.

London was ranked as the 8th safest city in the world according to Berkshire Hathaway's Safest Cities report. The safest countries list also includes Australia, Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, New Zealand, Germany, Norway, Japan, Denmark, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom, Netherlands, and Sweden, all noted for similar criteria as Iceland.
