Significant Alterations in Danish Life: Monthly Updates for March 2025

Denmark's March Calendar: Ryanair Leaves Billund Airport, Tax Returns Unveiled, Enjoy Summer, and Fastelavn Celebrations

Significant Alterations in Danish Life: Monthly Updates for March 2025

Updates Coming for Denmark in March

Join us as we walk through some of the exciting happenings this March in Denmark!

Say goodbye to Ryanair at Billund Airport 🛫

Unfortunately, Ryanair will be leaving Billund Airport after March 31st. This decision, made due to the new air travel tax, means a shift in travel options for the area's many expats. Billund Airport is working on striking deals with other companies to fill this gap but, as of now, no agreements have been announced.

Don't worry if you have flights booked with Ryanair in March—their services will still be operational during this month.

Digging into your tax return 📊

Prepare to dive into your annual tax return! The release of the årsopgørelse is set for March 25th, 2025, on the Skat.dk website. You'll have the chance to make any necessary adjustments, such as updating income or tax exemptions, within a set deadline towards the beginning of May.

By the way, if you're interested in monitoring your tax payments throughout the year, you can already do so on the Skat website through the preliminary version of the return, the forskudsopgørelse!

Clocks spring forward ⏱️

Get ready for longer, lighter evenings! The change to summertime means the move to GMT+2 will happen on Sunday, March 30th. Expect to lose an hour of sleep that weekend, as the clocks jump forward by one hour at 3am.

EU citizens apply for the ETA for UK travel 🇬🇧

From March 5th, nationals from EU countries, including Denmark, can apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before visiting the UK. Even though Danish citizens won't need the ETA to travel to the UK until April 2nd, it's best to apply ahead of travel, making things stress-free for your upcoming adventures in April.

An ETA is £10, allows for travel for up to six months, and covers tourism, business, short-term study, or visiting family and friends. Just remember that an ETA doesn't guarantee entry, and border checks will still apply. Additionally, it doesn't allow work in the UK or extended stays beyond six months.

Carry on the festivities 🎉

With Easter falling in April, Denmark will have no national public holidays in March. But fear not, as one of the favorite events, Fastelavn, will take place on March 2nd! Time to dust off those costumes, have a crack at the barrel, and enjoy some delicious fastelavnsboller.

On the other hand, March 29th will offer a partial solar eclipse, with 20% of the sun covered at 12:15 pm, and clear visibility of Jupiter and Mars in the evening twilight.

Copenhagen Emissions Zone update 🏙️

An important update on Copenhagen's emissions zone: the environmental zone has been extended on March 1st to cover the entire Copenhagen Municipality, including Amager and stretching to the municipal border with Tårnby. The extension aims to improve air quality for all residents.

Diesel vehicles that don't meet emission standards have been notified by mail of the changes affecting them. Stay updated on the impact of these zone expansions on your vehicles!
