Summer vacation begins for schools!
=================================================================================================
In this edition of the Internships Blog series, we delve into an exciting school day at the Latitude Festival, where a myriad of family-friendly activities were on offer. The author, representing the trust, found the weekend to be both rewarding and exhausting.
The festival, known for its diverse programme, offered a variety of activities suitable for families and children. The schools day was no exception, filled with fun-filled activities such as creating nature journals, making willow jellyfish, minibeast hunting, and lake dipping.
One of the highlights of the day was the moth session that concluded the school visit. The author's activities were popular, with people queuing to participate. During this session, noteworthy finds included baby toads in the woods, water scorpions, and newt poles in the lakes.
But the real stars of the show were the moths. The school visit concluded with a moth session, where the brilliant and new moth species discovered included the gorgeously golden fluffy oak eggar and the canary-shouldered thorn.
The gorgeously golden fluffy oak eggar, known for its golden coloration and fluffy body, is a distinctly robust and furry moth, resembling a small caterpillar-covered eggar moth with an oak-associated habitat. On the other hand, the canary-shouldered thorn, with its bright yellow shoulder marks and thorn-like silhouette, is a moth named for its unique appearance.
Both species are part of the diverse British moth fauna, known for their distinct coloration and texture that inspire their common names.
A reminder for future interns: don't forget your festival ticket, as you may have to drive home to retrieve it.
