Tesla is set to make its mark in Latin America in 2023, with Chile and Uruguay gearing up for the electric vehicle giant's arrival. While no official cities have been announced, both countries are preparing for the impact of Tesla's innovative technology.
In Uruguay, the government and business leaders are pushing for Tesla's presence, with President Luis Lacalle Pou expressing his desire to see the company establish sales and maintenance operations in the country. Uruguay already boasts a fleet of over 200 electric vehicles, indicating a ready market for the Tesla Model 3.
Meanwhile, in Chile, Tesla will open its first store, marking a significant milestone for electromobility in the country. The launch event is scheduled for January 31st at Parque Arauco, where attendees can interact with Tesla models and even schedule test drives. Tesla's arrival is expected to drive competition and foster innovation in the Chilean automotive sector, joining its biggest rival, BYD Co.
Tesla has been actively preparing for its Latin American expansion, hiring staff for positions in Santiago. Three vacant positions are currently listed on LinkedIn. While no specific models have been confirmed, it is speculated that the Model 3, Model S, Model X, or Model Y will be available in the Chilean store.
