Torrevieja's Salt Industry Centre Revitalised in €498K EU-Funded Project
Torrevieja's Tourism Sustainability Plan (2021) is set to revitalise the town's cultural scene with the rehabilitation of the Salt Industry Interpretation Centre. Funded by the Next Generation EU Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, this 498,671 euros project aims to restore the centre's physical structure and enhance its exhibitions and visitor facilities.
The centre, dedicated to showcasing Torrevieja's salt production history, will undergo a five-month restoration and adaptation process starting in 2024. The works contract has been awarded to ACSA, Obras e Infraestructuras, S.A.U. This initiative is a significant step in Torrevieja's broader strategy to integrate heritage and sustainability into its tourism offering.
Authorities anticipate multiple benefits from the rehabilitation. It is expected to enrich the town's cultural life, boost tourism-related revenue, create local employment opportunities, and support jobs in the tourism and hospitality sectors. Once complete, the centre will stand as a symbol of cultural preservation, economic renewal, and community pride.
The expansion of the Salt Industry Interpretation Centre in Torrevieja is set to strengthen the town's cultural tourism offer. By attracting both residents and visitors interested in heritage and sustainable tourism experiences, the project supports Torrevieja's commitment to preserving its past while embracing a sustainable future.
