UK's Minister Benyon Visits Costa Rica to Boost Bioeconomy Cooperation
Lord Richard Benyon, the UK's Minister for Climate, Environment and Energy, recently visited Costa Rica. This trip marked the first regional bioeconomy mission funded by the UK, aiming to foster collaboration and share experiences among the UK, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Brazil.
The mission, attended by high-level officials and experts from the participating countries, focused on advancing a prosperous bioeconomy. Minister Benyon highlighted the UK's work to meet climate and nature targets, as well as its financial commitments to regional initiatives. These include an initial £2 million through the UK's Blue Planet Fund and £80 million for the Amazon Fund.
Field trips provided valuable insights into biotechnology initiatives and scientific research in Costa Rica. These aim to boost the bioeconomy and protect the country's rich biodiversity. Lord Benyon also held meetings with Costa Rican ministers and non-governmental organizations working in climate and environment.
The UK's bioeconomy mission to Costa Rica has fostered international cooperation and knowledge exchange. With significant financial commitments and a focus on protecting biodiversity, the UK continues to support regional initiatives in the bioeconomy.
