Vacationing duo at the Baltic Sea makes an astonishing resolution
In the summer of 2025, Gerald and Regina Werner embarked on a vacation to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a picturesque region by the Baltic Sea. Little did they know, their trip would be anything but typical.
The German Weather Service reported that July 2025 was one of the wettest months in recent decades, with 125 liters of precipitation per square meter, surpassed only by 2011. The sun barely showed its face, with only 190 hours, which is 15 percent below the long-term average.
Despite the gloomy weather, the Werners pressed on, determined to make the most of their holiday. They had planned to visit the Warnemünde mole to watch a cruise ship set sail, but the day was marked by dark clouds and an approaching storm.
Their vacation took an unexpected turn in Travemünde, Schleswig-Holstein, where Gerald Werner had an unusual experience involving a police operation triggered by his swimming. Mistaken for a missing swimmer, a police operation ensued, including the deployment of a drone. Regina Werner remained calm, knowing her husband was safe.
The Werners' vacation was not affected by the flooding in Bentwisch, as they were spared from it. However, they did witness a spectacle in Warnemünde that they won't forget.
The Werners have many fond memories of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, including the "Molli" narrow-gauge railway, which their son particularly enjoyed. Regina expresses a love for the fresh sea air and the sea, while Gerald, with a touch of skepticism, says they are giving it "one last chance."
Meteorologist Stefan Kreibohm warns of the possibility of another weather event similar to the one that occurred during the Werners' vacation, with a lower probability. The unsettled weather in July 2025 was caused by the low-pressure system Isaac, which affected the region for several days.
As the Werners look forward to their next summer vacation, Regina hopes for better weather. Despite the challenging weather conditions during their vacation, they continue to be fond of the Baltic Sea.
