Women's International organization hosts vibrant Mexican Day festival to kick off their latest season

The International Women's Group (IWG) commenced its 2025-2026 season with a colourful and lively "Mexican Day" celebration, held on a significant occasion – the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Kuwait.

The event, filled with the flavours and music of Mexico, was a testament to the group's mission of fostering cultural exchange through a wide range of activities and events. The gathering began with a moment of silence in honour of Ms. Rawda Elizabeth Mahmoud, a longtime member and founder of Kuwait English School.

Marika Kushlamazashvili, wife of the Ambassador of Georgia, took the helm as the new president of the IWG. In her opening remarks, she expressed gratitude to her predecessor, Paulina Dlamini, for her efforts, and to Laura Duclos Villares for her support in organising the celebration.

The occasion also marked the introduction of the new team of vice presidents: Rima Khalidi, Theano Platos, Midori Muki, and Saih Goffin. The event was attended by members and ambassadors, who were treated to a live performance by Yousef Juma, adding a Mexican artistic flair to the proceedings.

The celebration paid tribute to Mexico's rich cultural heritage and art, particularly the life of artist Frida Kahlo. A vibrant mini-market recreated the feel of a traditional Mexican market, featuring various Mexican goods and street delicacies.

A highlight of the event was a live cooking show, hosted by Mexican chefs Fernanda and Daniela Perez Barrera. The showcase of traditional Mexican flavours, recognised by UNESCO, was a culinary journey that transported guests across the Atlantic.

Susanne Baer, former judge of the Federal Constitutional Court and professor at Humboldt University in Berlin, was present as the new president of the IWG. She expressed gratitude to Honorary President Sheikha Hanouf Al-Badr for her continued support.

The celebration concluded with a photo booth, allowing guests to capture memories of the event. Overall, the "Mexican Day" celebration was a resounding success, marking the beginning of an exciting new season for the International Women's Group.
