Yamaha Unveils Impressive 'True Sound Room' in Japan
Yamaha, the renowned Japanese electronics manufacturer, has recently unveiled a new demonstration space in their piano manufacturing facility near Kakegawa, Japan. The room, named the 'True Sound Room', is a testament to Yamaha's commitment to audio excellence.
The 'True Sound Room' boasts dimensions of 2.8 x 5 x 8 meters, making it one of the largest listening spaces in the UK. Its design aims to control well-defined standing waves through a combination of reflection and absorption, with the ceiling using around 30 absorbing panels to compensate for the reflective wooden floor. The walls are covered with Yamaha-developed acoustic panels that reflect and absorb sound across a broad band of frequencies.
The system in the 'True Sound Room' includes the C-5000/M-5000 amplifier combo and a pair of NS-5000 speakers, which are handmade and placed on hefty frame stands, positioned well out into the room. The NS-5000 speakers offer controlled, well-extended lows with a fine sense of solidity combined with a pleasant richness. The system's imaging is stable and convincingly layered, with a lovely sense of depth, and its clarity through the midrange is exceptional, as is its ability to paint an expansive soundstage.
The presentation of the system could potentially be richer and sweeter from the midrange upwards, and it might prove a little unforgiving with less cultured recordings. However, the even tonal balance is evident, as it reveals intricate low-level instrumental textures. Dynamics are wide-ranging, punchy, and fluid, with plenty of composure when the volume level rises.
The GT-5000 record player, priced at £8800 / $7999 / AU$12,999, serves as the source in the demonstration. The system's MC-1 moving-coil cartridge ensures a precise and detailed sound reproduction.
The 'True Sound Room' is one of the best listening rooms experienced by the author, developed with a scientific approach and fine-tuned by ear. It's a must-visit for audiophiles seeking a truly immersive audio experience.
The Yamaha True Sound Rooms are part of Yamaha's efforts to demonstrate their highest production level. Alongside the YH-5000SE headphones, most of the brand's high-end 5000 Series products are built in this facility. This new demo space further solidifies Yamaha's position as a leader in the high-end audio market.
